Journalists always have to be able to adapt.
And one journalist that has shown her ability to adapt is Lisa Remillard. She stopped by to talk with CSUN’s RTDNA.
Lisa always knew she wanted to be a reporter. When she first graduated from USC she left home for a job in Tallahassee, Florida. She tells students don't worry, “ I sent out hundreds of tapes,” she says, “ but just keep trying.”
Lisa Remillard is a journalist who not only has her own news television show but also has created a large social media presence.
She has a Tik Tok account with over 600,000 active followers.

Remillard has accumulated more than 10 million likes on her posts. She explains how important it is for journalists to be active on social media and how Tik Tok is a good place for “quick and concise news with video.”
“I’ve always been involved in social media, since it started.” She uses Twitter as a place to find stories and stay updated on news. Recently, Remillard has taken advantage of the constantly growing platform Tik Tok.
Lisa did not start uploading Tik Tok videos until February 2020. Her first video about the United States travel ban “took off”. Her followers continue to grow as she provides her audience with active news stories.
She advises students, “People are desperate for facts. They are desperate for news. They are desperate for new information. However, only 13% of people believe journalists.” Remillard said it’s up to real journalists to combat misinformation from sloppy journalists by providing real news. When reporting she advises that stories should be, “ Fair, accurate, and always right. Never put out misinformation and if it goes out by accident fix it immediately.” From her experience, Lisa has learned that honesty is the most important principle for a journalist to keep.
The most popular news stories from Lisa are usually on political news. During our meeting with her, Lisa revealed that politics is not what she saw herself reporting on. “When I was younger, I wanted to be a sports reporter,” she said. She also revealed that she contemplated working for entertainment news networks like E! News. Lisa explained, “ When you start working, you don’t have a choice. You cover what they tell you to cover. It’s part of being a well-rounded journalist.”
Watch the meeting to get to know more about Remillard’s experiences as a political journalist and how to report on platforms like Tik Tok:
